Agathe Cello Duo – CELLO by&for

CELLO by&for is het nieuw programma van het Agathe Ensemble, waarin de cello en de cellisten centraal staan.

De combinatie van 2 cello’s in de afgelopen 300 jaar is grotendeels uitgebuit door de uitvoerders zelf, die als geen ander wisten hoe ze hun instrument op de mooiste en meest fascinerende manieren kunnen bespelen. Met dit programma verkent het Agathe Cello Duo de muziek van oude cellomeesters als S. Lee, G. Cervetto, D. Popper en F. Grützmacher. De geselecteerde muziekwerken, oorspronkelijk gecomponeerd voor Cello Duo, laten ons hun eigen unieke benadering van het instrument horen, hun emoties, humor en virtuositeit.

 Daarnaast zullen de artiesten ook hun persoonlijke visie op het instrument presenteren, met 2 nieuwe originele werken die ze zelf hebben gecomponeerd, geïnspireerd op verschillende Europese volksmuziektradities.

Agathe Ensemble is een collectief van strijkers met als doel kamermuziek voor strijkers in allerlei bezettingen uit te brengen. Uit dit ensemble ontstaat het Agathe Cello Duo, bestaande uit Iván Nogueira en Pau Marquès. Een mooie en compacte combinatie, waarbij beide spelers gelijke rollen kunnen spelen door continu melodieën of baslijnen uit te wisselen. Twee cellisten die in gesprek gaan, die elkaar kunnen uitdagen en inspireren.

The combination of 2 Cellos within the last 300 years has mostly been exploited by the performers themselves, who knew like no other how to play their instrument in the most beautiful and fascinating ways. With this program, Agathe Cello Duo reviews the music by old cello masters like S. Lee, G. Cervetto, D. Popper and F. Grützmacher. The selected music works, originally composed for Cello Duo, let us sense each of their own unique approach to the instrument, their emotions, humor and virtuosity.

In addition to that, the performers will present their personal vision of the instrument too, with 2 new original works composed by themselves, inspired by different European folk music traditions.

Agathe Ensemble is a collective of string players aiming to bring out chamber music for strings in all kinds of settings. From this ensemble arises the Agathe Cello Duo, comprised by Iván Nogueira and Pau Marquès. A beautiful and compact combination, where both players can perform equal roles by continuously exchanging melodies or bass lines. Two cellists who can dialogue, challenge and inspire each other.
